Need to Know Before You Build a Fence
Here at True North Land Surveying, we often get asked to “just stake the property lines” for a fence or landscaping project. While this sounds simple, Washington State law doesn’t allow surveyors to mark or represent property boundaries unless we do it properly—and that means completing a full Record of Survey.
This process involves researching deeds, verifying legal descriptions, recovering monuments, and confirming boundary lines according to state regulations. It’s a detailed, legally defensible product that protects both you and your neighbors.
We understand that some clients are looking for a faster or cheaper option, but out of professional responsibility, we no longer provide construction-style property line staking for fences or structures without a full record of survey. If you need to know exactly where your property lines are, we’re here to do it the right way—and back it up with a recorded map.
